Valentine's Day Speech Party!

Speech Therapy Fun: Valentine's Speech Party

Next week is already Valentine's Day!  Can you believe how fast this year is going?  I know, for me, that this time of year is usually full of IEPs, meetings, report cards, paperwork and everything just seems to be piling up.  It also seems to be the time of year where students start to get bored with the same old therapy games and begin to go a little stir crazy.  Not to mention, I always get little jealous of all the Valentine's Day parties that are happening, in all the classrooms, while I sit in my office billing medicaid...

So, why not have a Valentine's Speech Party? I know, it sounds like a lot of planning and we have to work on speech goals, right?  Well, I did the planning for you!  Just click here to download the party plans and that's it!  It contains materials needed, a craft and a game to throw the ultimate speech party.  Your students will have a blast, while also working on their goals, of course!

This specific download contains ideas for articulation therapy, however, you can have your students complete a language task in place of the articulation tasks.  I hope you and your students enjoy!

Spring & Easter Fun

Spring is almost here!  Need some ideas or things to do in therapy? Here are some fun ideas to keep kids engaged in your speech sessions.

Build A Peep A Home

Items Needed: Graham Crackers, Royal Icing (Icing to stick things together), Peeps, Easter Grass, Chocolate Eggs or Jelly Beans

This project can address sequencing, prepositions and following directions.

Sequencing & Following Directions - While creating the house, use sequencing words such as first, second and last. Give the student 1-2 step directions on how to make the house.
Prepositions - After building the house, give the student directions on where to place the peep and/or eggs.  For example, tell the student to put the peep 'inside' the house and the egg 'next to' the house.

Place all items in a basket or box.  Discuss each item with the student and have him/her describe the items.  When giving directions, tell the students what to take 'out' of the box and when to take them.

Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt
Items Needed: Easter Eggs, Easter Grass, Clue Print Outs, Candy if wanted

This scavenger hunt can address following directions, prepositions, recalling information and problem solving.

Print out the clue tags (download below).  Write in your directions and place the directions in the eggs.  Make sure you place the tags in the correct order, so that the scavenger hunt is able to be completed.  Hide the eggs in the corresponding spots.  For the scavenger hunt, you can read the clues and help the student or have the student complete it by himself/herself.

Valentine's Day Activity

Need a last minute activity for Valentine's day?  Well, hopefully this will be a fun activity to do with your students this week.  I just bye two boxes of Valentine's day cards for about $1.50 each.  I buy one 'girl' and one 'boy' box.  For example, I just recently bought a princess and a superheroes box of cards.  Besides the box of cards, you will just need crayons or markers, construction paper, glue and some stickers if you would like.  Once in therapy, have your students pick out one or two cards to glue onto their paper.  Once glued, start doing your therapy by asking questions, having them describe it or compare and contrast the pictures.  Here is how I address each goal.

'WH' Questions - Ask the students different questions about the card they picked.  Have them write their answers around the card and then decorate the paper.  Questions could include, 'Why did you pick this card?', 'What is the person doing?', 'Where else can you see this character?', etc.

Describe - Have the students glue a card in the middle of the paper.  Have them decorate around the card with descriptive words.  You can prompt the students by asking them questions or make it harder and don't give them any prompts.

Comparing - Have the students pick 2 cards and glue them next to each other.  Make 2 columns and label one 'Similar' and one 'Different'.  Have the students write down (or name if they can't write) 5 different similarities and differences under each column.  Then, have the students decorate their papers.

I hope you have fun with these Valentine's project ideas!

What Do You Want For Christmas?

Speech Therapy Christmas Freebie
Sorry, this freebie is no longer available.
This FREE activity is a fun way to work on 'wh' questions, conversation skills, problem solving and descriptions.  Have one student ask another student questions about what he/she wants for Christmas.  For example, 'What color is it?" The student answering the questions should describe the item he/she wants.  The lines on the stocking are for 'taking notes'.  After enough questions have been asked, have the student draw his/her guess at the bottom of the stocking.  It's fun to see if the kids can guess right!

There are 3 pages in this file each for different levels.  One has blank lines for kids who can write and are higher level.  One has lines with 3 clues on what questions to ask.  One is blank for the little kids who can't write yet.  Have them draw the clues instead!
